Welcome to the blog for the latest news on the effort to continue the former SF SPCA Hearing Dog Program as a new independent organization. We are happy to report that the Hearing Dog Program has reopened as an independent 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, based in San Francisco and is looking for volunteers to help foster dogs and help with other tasks.
NOTE: The petition protesting the April 21, 2008 closure at the S.P.C.A. gathered over 2000 signatures from all over the world and is still growing in numbers. Thank you to everyone who signed the petition, which helped spread public awareness of the HDP story! To read the petition, which recounts the story of the closure, visit:
We are a group of hearing dog recipients, volunteers, and supporters who have established a new independent program with the same staff of the former SF SPCA Hearing Dog Program. Our goal is to continue this valuable program, which matches trained rescue dogs with deaf and hard of hearing clients.
